Here are the ingredients you need to make graham crackers:
3 tablespoons butter, melted
1 tablespoon oil
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup flour (whole wheat flour if you got it!)
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ teaspoon baking powder
- Pinch cinnamon
Here are the directions to make homemade graham crackers:
First, in a medium bowl with a spoon or spatula, mix together all of the butter, milk, honey and vanilla until everything is combined. Next, slowly add in all of the dry ingredients until everything is fully combined. The mixture should be a sticky, homogenous dough, but be careful not to overmix it so it is too stiff.
Next, pat the dough into a large rectangle. Then wrap it in plastic and place the mixture in the refrigerator for at least 20 minutes.
While the mixture is in the fridge, heat the oven to 300F. Also, you should grease a baking sheet.
Then, lightly dust a surface with flour so you can work the dough. Now, remove the dough from the refrigerator and roll out to at least ¼-inch thickness on the floured surface.
Once everything has been rolled out, carefully transfer it to a fully greased baking sheet.
Now, bake the sheet of dough for 5 minutes. Then, remove the dough from the oven. Now you can use a spatula, dull butter knife or pizza roller or any other object you desire, to cut the dough into squares, rectangles, or any other shapes you want. Finally, prick the dough with fork tinges to get the graham cracker look.
You can also sprinkle some cinnamon sugar on top of the dough at this point, or other seasonings. It’s very important that you don’t remove the dough from the pan at this point or it will loose its uniformity. It should be slightly warm and very pliable.
Now, bake the cut dough for an additional 10 minutes. Then remove it from the oven and while create space between crackers cuts to resemble the cracked sides of the graham cracker.
Finally, bake the crackers for a final 5 minutes. The total baking time is 20 minutes. Allow them to cool fully before removing crackers from the sheet pan.
